Sergio Pérez claimed a second podium finish of the season with a great performance at the European Grand Prix in Baku and earned his second Driver of the Day award, as selected by fans in an official poll. This achievement was a mix of strategy, concentration and precision, as the Baku City Circuit is a high speed track, with very close walls and tight run off areas – a track that doesn’t leave any room for mistakes.
“The key to my race was the great start. I knew that the podium was possible, but we really had to work hard for it. I knew when I walked the track yesterday that it was going to be good fun to drive – and today didn’t disappoint. It’s an amazing circuit: really challenging, no margin for error, and a real pleasure to drive.” Sergio Pérez
It is the second podium of the season for Sergio, who managed to claim an impressive podium in the prestigious Monaco GP just a few weeks before his Baku heroics. The third place in the streets of Monte Carlo was the first podium of the 2016 season for the Sahara Force India Team.
Sergio Pérez has now seven Formula One podium finishes to his name: he took his first one at the 2012 Malaysian Grand Prix, where he finished in 2nd place, and repeated this achievement twice during the same season, at the Canadian GP and the Italian GP, earning 3rd and 2nd position respectively.
Checo also brought Sahara Force India two podiums in 2014 and 2015, finishing in 3rd place at the 2014 Bahrain GP and matching this result in Russia in 2015.
Stay tuned as the team travels to central Europe for the Austrian GP, taking place on July 1-3, at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg.
